President’s Message

Bret Fonnesbeck

Hey Everyone, I hope you are enjoying the heat. It is that time of year that we need to be careful out rockhounding. It doesn’t take long to get heat stroke and be in a bad situation. Make sure you take plenty of water and always let some one know where you are and when you will be back.

The Club Picnic is this month. It is Thursday August 11at6:30PM at the Willow Park Rotary Pavilion. Read Patrick’s article for more info. Hope to see you all there.

We have many positions that we need to fill in the club. Right now, we are specifically looking for people to create website and social media content. I have had a few people interested but we still need more. If you are looking for ways to help the club this could be a fun way to pitch in.

I would like to thank everyone that volunteers and does the extra work for the club. Without these people this club would not function.

I also would like to remind everyone about the shed. We have all the equipment you need to polish your stones and some great volunteers that run the shed to teach you. This is a wonderful resource that most clubs don’t have. I hope you are taking advantage of it.

We have two trips this month. Watch for details in your email or even better come to the meeting and get the details for the trips. Enjoy your summer and we hope to see you at one of our many activities

Well, a hot and dry July has come and gone. The fossil fish trip was a success, I’m pretty sure everyone went home happy.

This month we have two trips scheduled, the first is on the13thout at Texas springs, by Jackpot, it’s about a four hour drive from Logan, it will be along day trip. Here we will collect agates, bog wood, limb casts, and what ever else we can find, watch for an update, in the past we have met in jackpot around8:00and spent the day out looking, will probably be similar this year.

The second is in Salina, it will be the following weekend, 19-21, there are a couple of things close to town to collect Friday afternoon. Saturday will be the major collecting day with several stops for wonderstone, Salina blue agate, lemon opal, salina brown agate, and possibly acouple other stops, time permitting.

As always FOUR WHEEL DRIVE IS REQUIRED, YOURPRIUSWON’TMAKEIT! We’ll see you at the meeting.

Fun times at the Rock Shed (see picture below). I thought I would share a picture of how one of the Kids Club member ‘Caleb’ looked when it was time to leave the Rock Shed. He had been polishing rocks. Lots of fun with rocks!

We have so many great members in the Kids Club. Thankyou, parents, for bringing them every month.

August will be the picnic. I am looking forward to seeing you all.

September we will be making trees (Lapidary Arts). Members are encouraged to bring a rock they would like to attach their tree to.

As a reminder, kids five and under need to have  with them during the club meetings. There have been some problems with kids running around the building unsupervised after class. When class is over, I ask the members to go check in with their adult. Please be aware of where your children are.
